Community Action
Youth Climate Action !!!

Walkers along the east side of the harbour near the Bayshore will notice a large circle cut into the grass turf now planted tightly with trees and shrubs. This 'mini-forest' is on an east-facing slope located to the north of the Bayshore and the south of the boat launch. The native plants were sourced from Nan Brown who leads the native plant nursery at the Inglis Falls Arboretum Alliance. The project was part of this year's Youth Climate Action Conference.
The mini-forest is now putting down roots thanks to the efforts of a large crew including Leigh Grigg from The Sustainability Project, Jo Anne Harbinson of Stewardship Grey Bruce, Megan Myles from Grey County, Jenny Carver from Georgian Bluffs Climate Action Team and (of course) the students from local schools who helped to put the plants in the ground. Many others pitched in, including Lloyd Lewis and Gord Edwards from NeighbourWoods North and others from the groups listed below*.
Participating schools also each received $500 of seed money to use for a climate resilience project next year. Fundraising volunteers (along with generous community donors) made this financial donation possible.
*"The conference was organized by The Sustainability Project, with support from Learning for a Sustainable Future, Grey County, City of Owen Sound, Bluewater District School Board, Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board, local climate action teams, and financial contributions from over 10 community organizations." - Grey County Communications
